Clontarf Historical Society - Talk By Denis McIntyre

15 Apr 2012 - 15 Apr 2012 Parish Resource Centre, St John the Baptist, Clontarf Road
Most people know Dracula but his creator Bram Stoker is less well known. The talk deals with : 1. Bram Stoker’s life story from sickly child to Trinity student, to civil servant, to drama and Henry Irvine's and London's Lyceum theatre, to marriage to Florence Balcombe to multi-talented author. 2. The Dracula story... the fiend’s journey from Translyvania to London and his rein of terror there until the chase back to castle Dracula. 3. The origins of the story and Stoker’s inspiration... here we have the argument to prove that Dracula is Irish from his mother’s Sligo cholera stories to St.Michan’s church, to landlords and famine to suicide graveyards to religion etc. Dennis McIntyre was a teacher in Belgrove School for 25 years and is a well-known local historian, best noted for his history of Clontarf entitled ‘The Meadow of the Bull’. More significantly, he is recognised as an international authority on Bram Stoker and Dracula. New members always welcome, for all enquiries please call (01) 8338711.
