Bull Island Action Group February 2020 Beach Clean

15 Feb 2020 - 15 Feb 2020 Dollymount Strand, Bull Island

The Bull Island Action Group's next Monthly Beach Clean Up will take place on Saturday 15th February 2020.

Those wishing to volunteer are asked to arrive at the entrance to Dollymount Strand (just past Royal Dublin Golf Club) at 10:45 AM to sign in, in order to begin the clean up at 11 AM. After signing-in, Saturday's volunteers will be divided into three or four smaller groups. Each of these groups will tackle one of the areas mentioned above. All groups will be led by an experienced Bull Island Action Group volunteer who is familiar with what needs to be done in each area.

Note; this month the group are trialling using a second meeting place close to the North Bull Island Interpretive Centre on the Causeway Road https://goo.gl/maps/rLLJoyko915mnvhK8 Led by Phil Behan, this will initiative will facilitate a group of up to twenty volunteers cleaning the beach at the northern end of the island.

Dublin City Council provides a tractor and trailer, plus a driver, to remove and dispose of the litter we collect. The Dublin Port Company provides us with litter-picking equipment. A Taisce's Clean Coasts Programme is also a huge support to us.

The weather for Saturday is forecast as cloudy with some rain expected. There will be a moderate breeze of 7 m/s from the south-southeast. It will be quite cool with temperatures expected to be between 8C and. Dress according to the conditions expected, but be sure to wrap up well and bring a waterproof jacket, just in case. Please remember to wear rubber boots, or hiking boots, with thick socks! These are essential for the outdoor work that we do on terrain and in conditions, that can be quite variable, boggy and soggy.

Try to persuade a friend or a family member to join you. The more volunteers we have, the greater the amount of work that we can do. I hope you can join the group on Saturday.
