A Galway Perspective on the Battle of Clontarf

The seminar will be officially launched by Ms Grete Ødegaard, Deputy Head of Mission of the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
 
Dr Cathy Swift who is currently the director of Irish Studies at Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick will present a paper on "The women of Galway and the making of Brian Boru". Darren McGettigan author of the recent book "The Battle of Clontarf Good Friday 1014" will present a paper on 'Brian Boru, South Connacht and the Battle of Clontarf'. Lunch is included in the €10 charge (€5 for Students and OAP's).
 
 
After lunch there is an opportunity to get an "Introduction to researching the genealogy of the clans of Hy-Many" with John Hamrock, MD, of Ancestor Network. Dr Joe Mannion, author and historian will present a paper on "Tadg Mór Ua Cellaig and the Battle of Clontarf". To close out the day there will be guided tours of the Castleblakeney Heritage Center.
