World Suicide Prevention Day

10 Sep 2010 - 10 Sep 2010
In Ireland, Suicide is the biggest killer of young adults today and over 400 Irish people take their lives by suicide each year. I believe that this figure is much higher. I’m sure we all either personally know or have heard about someone who has taken their life by suicide, even over the last 12/18 months. We can all do much as individuals, families and/or community groups to help some of the people distressed enough to consider this option. Most of the organisations dealing with the issue have published protocols that may save a life. We should all familiarise ourselves with them and have the courage to apply them if the need ever presents itself. www.ias.ie www.console.ie www.aware.ie www.3ts.ie www.turningthetideofsuicide.com An organisation, which offers a listening ear, is Samaritans. People from all walks of life and at different stages of life ring Samaritans everyday. Their number is 1850 609090 and they operate 24/7, 365 days per year www.dublinsamaritans.ie
